First u will observe that in 1984 10000 square meter cloth was represented by 1cm square which means that the square has an area of 1*1 = 1cm2 .

Now in 2004 35000 meter cloth was used and this data is to be represanted by one square
therefore, u simply hav to apply the correct ratios
which means that
Since 10000 square meter cloth is represented with 1 square of 1cm2 area
SO 35000 square meter cloth would be represented by x area

hence

10000x = 35000
x = 35000/10000
x = 3.5cm

remember what we have just calculated is the area

to find length of one side

3.5 = x * x
3.5 = x2 ( x square)

taking square root 3.5 = 1.87 cm
therefore lenght of 1 side of the square is 1.87 cm.

hope this helped
