Can anyone tell me how to analyse stories (prose) and Drama. I usually get low marks in those areas. Please and thank you. Much appreciated

Thanks a bunch mateIt all depends on the question really, however, no matter what the question is, the procedure of answering is the same. You need to make sure to plan out your response before starting, so write all your topic sentences first of all (the points you're going to be discussing in your essay). You would usually pick about 4-5 points to talk about. Also, make sure you don't stray off the actual question, so keep looking back it and using words from the question frequently in your answer. Another thing, which I'm sure you've been told before, is to use the structure of "Point, Example, Explanation" in each of your paragraphs and with every point you make. You don't need to use fancy words, basically make a point that is relevant to the question, give an example like a short quotation (don't use excessively long ones!) and then write another sentence explaining its relevance to the questions further. Finally, try and link your points to the main themes of the story or play after giving your little explanation.
Don't forget to give a brief but precise conclusion. Make it direct and to the point and use it to introduce your arguments to the examiner. Once you've finished your into and all your points, read over your essay before writing a short conclusion to sum up everything you've discussed throughout your essay. It may seem complicated but it really is doable. Best of luck.
