I guess it's written on the instructions to use a dark blue or black pen??
I gave my Maths paper AS last session with ball pen.

the pen should be either blue or black, may it be a ball pen or ink.
i gave my IGCSE using a ball pen, and insha Allah, i will give my AS with them as well.

I don't exactly know but someone told me that the papers are scanned and then sent to the University of Cambridge so it is better to attempt your paper with a BLACK POINTER
This is easier to read when our papers are scanned!

Yes they are... although i'd recommend gel pens
