by length you mean extension* ?

i think he really means the length of the wire, not the extension.
not that it'd make any difference as the length against force is the same as extension against force, but translated a couple of units up. the gradient won't change.

And in the January 2010 paper of Unit 3b, the answer to 5c is: "Metre rule/tape(1)
• Longer length so measurement to nearest mm appropriate (1)
• [allow to nearest ½ mm]"
How do we know the wire is long? Maybe it's just a short one being used?
And why do long lengths have to be measured to the nearest 0.50mm?
And if long lengths have to be measured to the nearest 0.50mm, what do shorter lengths have to be measured to the nearest?
