What is Horizontal and vertical transmission?

These terms are mostly used with antibiotic resistance in bacteria

vertical transmission refers to transmission of genetic information from one generation to another. For example, the transfer of DNA from mother to daughter cells during asexual reproduction
Vertical can be thought from high to low

horizontal transmission is genetic transmission of information in the form of plasmid between bacteria of the same generation. Horizontal can be thought of as line between two of same level (generation)
