Hi, I'm new here :)
I have my IGCSE's in May/June 2013 and these are the subjects I have to do:
  • Arabic (foreign language)
  • English language
  • ICT
  • English literature
  • Islamic
  • Math
  • Business
  • History (WWI/II, Cold War)
  • Biology
I am best at Arabic (I am fluent), English Language (but need to refine my skills), English Literature, History... Pretty good at ICT, Islamic, Business, and Bio, but they are kind of lengthy so I feel like they should be separated from the ones mentioned before. And I am REALLY REALLY bad at Math!!
I try my best for math but somehow I barely manage to get over 65% and I really want to get an A* inshallah or at least an A. My teachers over the years haven't been the best so I took tuitions but even those didn't help... so thsi year I am starting from scratch, using my grade 9 book (my school starts IG syllabus in grade 9) and will work up to last year (grade 10) textbook and consistently do past papers, but I'm still not confident.
Does anyone have any tips for math?
When should I start studying for each subject?
Thankyou!!

first of awl u should be determined nd confident...dont say u cant do it..u can do it Allah has gifted us with the ability to do anything so stay confident nd never give up :)
nextly, make sure u r thorough with basics of maths like formulae, algebra, geoametry basics etc
then open ur book nd start doing questions...REMEMBER do check the answers after solving them...atleast do 5-10 ques frm each exrcse..

Well ideally you should be studying currently. For math I just recommend that you ensure that you have a good qualified teacher. The teacher I've had all the 2 years of my IGCSE course was really bad and 1-2 months before the exam I was very nervous. Then I thought of asking the teacher next door who teaches another class, and he was way more qualified and helpful in math. He helped me more in math in 2 weeks (in the study leave period before the exams) than my normal teacher did over the 2 years. I honestly never thought of getting an A* in math it was a surprising miracle, I came out of the exam thinking of getting an A maximum if they lowered the grade boundaries, but lo and behold I was granted an A*. Math doesn't stick in my head for a long time, so I started studying for it 2-3 weeks before the exam :p but ideally you shouldn't do that! I'm average in math, but in your case you should be focusing and dedicating more time to math due to your weakness in it. Try alternating each day between each subject you study, e.g. one day you do an hour of 3 subjects, next day you do 3 hours of another 3 subjects, etc. Everyone's studying pattern is different so you have to find one that suits you personally.

By the way, I did Arabic IG as well. I'm pretty bad in it even though it's my first language but somehow managed to land an A*! Pretty easy exam, although the wording in some questions can be a bit difficult. For literature you basically have to know your prose/poetry inside out. Try reading summary essays, e.g. from sparknotes.com, for the play/story you're studying. English is kind of like a second-nature sort of thing for lots of people, and I'm guessing it is for you too. I was worried about my 2nd language English exam because I did it a year early, but ended up getting the best result in the country. Also an A* in first language this year, so the moral is try not to dedicate a lot of time to the subjects which aren't very technical like Language (English/Arabic), Business or even ICT if you're comfortable with it, and give more time to the lengthier ones like the sciences and especially math in your case. Hope any of that helped and if you need anything else please message me :)
