Does anyone have a proper description or a diagram to explain what a divided flask actually is?? All I have perceived from the ERs is that it refers to a test tube inside a flask!!!!!

depends on what you plotted in your graph. I, for one, plotted mass of HgClx on X-axis and mass of mercury on the Y-axis. The slope of the graph gives nothing more than a more accurate ratio of the mass of Hg to HgClx. The construct lines simply refer to a triangle that you would draw to find...

    Reaction mechanism of Acyl chlorides???

It is nucleophilic addition/elimination reaction but it is not mentioned in the syllabus. We should be okay with mentioning the term "nucleophilic substitution", however misleading it may be, CIE does not care!!!!!

    chemistry problem !!!!!!!

The key here is to differentiate between the hydrolysis and the esterification reaction For esterification: Use conc. H2S04 and heat under reflux. Conc. H2SO4 acts as a catalyst and also pushes the equilibrium to the fight. You probably know that water is produced during the reaction. H2SO4...

    maths.....tough thinking

think of it like this: tan(90-x)= sin(90-x)/cos(90-x) Now these two are easy relations: sin(90-x)= cosx cos(90-x)=sinx so: tan(90-x)= cotx

Yeps, we do require conditions of high concentration and temperature! Otherwise the bonds of SiO2 are too strong for the reaction too take place and thankfully so! Imagine aqueous NaOH in the lab reacting with the glass vessel in which it is containted! That would be great fun to watch!!!!!!!
