    k...u just read the table given in question and see that initial investment is $25; it increases by $3 every year... right?now there are 20 $25 in $500(we get it by dividing $500 by $20.... after 8 years,value of $25 will be 62 and value of $500 will be 62*20=$1240.(since there are 20 $25 in $500)

    see,square of ratio of lenghs of two similar shapes is same as the ratio of their area,right? now,in this figure we can make the ratio of areas to get lenghs' ratio,which is formed as given above,.. hope u understand it now...
