    Chemistry: Post your doubts here!

D is a tertiary halogenoalkane, they undergo Sn1 nucleophilic substitution (the Br breaks off and then, very quickly, OH- replaces it) and so the rate determining step is the Br bond breaking (and thus dependent on the concentration of the organic molecule only); since the substitution of OH- is...

    Applied ICT

I've finished A Level AICT so I can't really make notes anymore (I don't have the book with me anymore) but I can link you to the previous notes I made last year: https://www.xtremepapers.com/community/threads/as-level-applied-ict-notes.27074/#post-578264

A level Biology: Post your doubts here!

The hint is in the question -- the HIV-1 protease is formed from two (identical) chains of 99 amino acids; for each chain (chain 1 and 2), amino acids 25, 26 and 27 form part of the active site. The quarternary structure is due to the different chains that form an enzyme (for example...

AS Biology P1 MCQs Preparation Thread

Because it'd be weaker if there were no covalent bonds :) It's asking for things affecting the tensile strength of collagen - collagen is strong because of its helical structure (more hydrogen bonds), and the small R group means that when individual strands of collagen are placed parallel to...

    Chemistry MCQ notes? Urgent (:

Hmm...this thread was started in the "CIE" (Cambridge) forum, sub forum "International A and AS Level".. There is no way it is for cambridge. Nope, nope, nope. It is definitely not for cambridge's {CIE} curriculum, which is why it was posted here. :censored:

AS Biology P1 MCQs Preparation Thread

The fetus is the unborn child, but a child is ... the born child? :p I think they mean "child" as in the disease can pass through breastfeeding and not through the placenta...however I think the answer is b) malaria not because it's "correct" but because of elimination, i.e the other answers are...

magnification = observed size (ruler) / (divide) actual size they should be in the same units (i.e metres) magnification = 2500 therefore 2500 = observed size / actual size substitute to get the actual size (as = observed / 2500), and then multiply that by 1 um (micrometre)

    English 8693: Help Needed!

I've not read the whole of your commentary, but after just a few lines I see about 4 instances of the word "reader". Such mentions (/breaking the 4th wall) do not make for an immersive commentary, but I guess that's just me. Handwriting: Your "r"s look like "a"s, in the beginning I thought the...

So AFAIK more than 24 hours have passed since the exam was taken...so can we start discussing? I'm sorry I couldn't put up the notes I had intended to put up in my thread, but apparently it shouldn't have been hard. So how was your exam?:)

    AS Level Applied ICT [Notes]

Ah yes, I forgot that >.> Well I've been a bit busy studying my other subject so I'm sorry I couldn't update the notes, so here are the ones that barely fit as "notes" -- answers to questions that may certainly come in the exam. What should a shopping website that is good have? It should...

Anyone attending Applied ICT for AS level on 28th may 2013?

I've decided to create a separate thread specifically for notes, where things can be a little more organized :) To reduce the incidence of posts for help I've created a poll to find out which topics are the hardest so I can try and address them (I am not very good in publishing and data/time...

    AS Level Applied ICT [Notes]

I've decided to create a separate thread for notes on applied ICT for AS level, where things can be a little more organized; there are roughly 3 parts: 1 for each chapter, most likely. The first chapter, hardware, will likely not come, although there will be a separate Appendix for that. Any...

Anyone attending Applied ICT for AS level on 28th may 2013?

Thanks a lot! I've updated the original post :) As far as I know, embedded web technology hasn't appeared in the papers before, although it could be used in things like washing machines, air conditioners and so on if a question asks for the uses of EWT.

Anyone attending Applied ICT for AS level on 28th may 2013?

I find it hard to believe that "very few answered <this question> correctly" in the Examiner's report -- the questions are, in retrospect, SO EASY!
