Nah, that's not true. There will be a curve as usual.
Let's just hope L saves all of US FOR THE EXAMS :)
I can't believe that I'm watching Death Note in middle of my exams. Going to watch FMA too.

he could be correct because the A* needs a percent from A then it depends on the curve:)

im glad i can help u guys, this statement only refers to GCSE not to IGCSE. this is because GCSE'S are easier than IGCSE'S, therefore, in order to give people more realistic results, they have rised the grade thresholds for the exams. as i said, IGCSE'S grade threshold will therefore be relied upon 'the curve' as regularly and will probably remain in the boundaries of 85%

I am doing GCSE Business and GCSE P.E and I do NOT believe that I need to get more than 90% for an A*
ALSO, notice that with languages it is different..GCSE Englis is MUCH harder than IGCSE.
ALSO, what is "the curve" please anyone?
ALSO: Deathnote and FMA rules, watched both of them twice!
"the curve" is the marks boundaries for A* , A, B and so on.

I´m not sure I understand; so what if A* is 90%? It´s perfectly reasonable - helloooooo, it´s an A*, not something you can get just because others do crap in their exams. I probably sound like an old man but I miss they days when, y´know, there was a challenge.

Dude how can that be possible? It is obvious that there is a curve. Take for example english, Bio etc. they are subjects that 80% of the time the highest grade in the whole IGCSE is between 75% to 85%. Very few or maybe Rarely somebody can score 90% on those subjects.

let me guess....u must be a nerd/geek and u cant stand watching people get good grades without much efforts...
and that is why u believe it to be completely reasonable that A* should be rewarded to those who get 90% or more marks.
is that correct?

Cool story bro. We don't want challenges we want good grades.

Yea well too bad life is nothing BUT challenges... Those good grades will be meaningless when yer boss fires you.

Ooh, I get this a lot too. No, I can´t stand people getting good grades for being retards. To be frank, it gives people the wrong impression. It gives them the illusion that they are good at a subject but they actually aren´t. Hey, it doesn´t matter to me when pressure from the real world breaks people, jussayin´. More than anything, I was giving a heads-up that "Hey, you´re not good at this subject and that´s all there is to it."

where did this boss come??? :p
btw a boss does not care about your grades all he cares about is how good you are in practical life and at work.. :p

well well looks like you are jealous of other peoples success. (dont be jealous as it will destroy you.)
as for retards getting good marks....that is not possible. a retard can get a B but not an A*. ( I should know,I know a few retarded people and they find it hard to score a B.)
as for the wrong impression......getting an A* is not easy. You have to work hard to score it.
if a few people (who you call retards) scored an A* in their exams does not mean that every retard can score an A*. (may be they worked hard for their exams , behind you back.)

That´s basically what I said, did I not? If getting the A* becomes too easy, you won´t be able to judge whether or not a person is qualified. Therefore since it´s too easy, there will be a bunch of under-qualified in companies. Let´s say you get A* in Science with 80% and due to this A* you get a good job. But 80% obviously means you´re not GREAT at Science, meaning your practical work will be bad.

Jealous? No, not jealous. I don´t want to deal with lazy people in my workplace when I get a job one day. And no, the A* is not easy, but it not as heard as people claim it to. At least not in IGCSE. In "A" level, getting the A* is a challenge.

Which brings me to another point. Since the A* in IGCSE is not as hard as the one in "A" level, people will have a much harder time in "A" level, ultimately screwing them up.

And finally, letters are meaningless. An A* simply means you were above a certain boundary. Technically it is possible for one to achieve an A* with 50% because the examiner board decides it, but that doesn´t mean you yourself are A* material does it? It goes to show how it´s difficult to distinguish quality from a sea of people.

look it all depends on grade threshold. the fact that your friend said about there being no curve for the 2012 exams is false. your friend is either making stuff up or misinformed. so relax and don't be stressed out about the marks you will attain. thinking about it wont raise you marks like magic. instead focus on the exams that are about to come and study well for those to attain good marks. remember your total grade is dependent on the combination of all your marks in all the papers you took for the particular subject.

Cambridge always has a grade threshold. so again im gonna say this forget about the past and look for a better future, because what's done is done. you cant change what you wrote on the papers you already took.

Isn't distinction from others the only reason for these exams? Trust me, exams are in no way a judge of one's capabilities. As far as personal satisfaction is concerned, you can even get that without appearing for a single exam.

You've talked about jobs and let me ask you something. Just imagine there was no curve. And you apply for a job with a B grade given that the highest grade given out because the high difficulty of the paper was a B in your session. But then another applicant comes up with an A* but he achieved that in a different session when the exam was easy. Now obviously for the employer the A* guy stands above the B grade guy. Eventhough, both achieved the highest grade that was given out in their respective sessions. This is where the so called CURVE comes in. It maintains the standard of the exams. It doesn't effect the grading system in case of hard and certain easy papers.

If you are so concerned about being the best, then there is an achievement beyond the A*. This is referred to as the Cambridge Outstanding Learners Award or the "Distinction" per say. Get that if you can.
