here is what u should do do the identification of ions courtesy of xps
Tests for aqueous cations:

CationEffect of aqueous sodium hydroxideEffect of aqueous ammonia
Aluminium (Al3+) White ppt., soluble in excess giving a
colourless solution White ppt., insoluble in excess
Ammonium (NH4+) Ammonia produced on warming –
Calcium (Ca2+) White ppt., insoluble in excess No ppt. or very slight white ppt.
Copper (Cu2+) Light blue ppt., insoluble in excess Light blue ppt., soluble in excess,
giving a dark blue solution
Iron(II) (Fe2+) Green ppt., insoluble in excess Green ppt., insoluble in excess
Iron(III) (Fe3+) Red-brown ppt., insoluble in excess Red-brown ppt., insoluble in excess
Zinc (Zn2+) White ppt., soluble in excess,
giving a colourless solution White ppt., soluble in excess,
giving a colourless solution
Tests for Anions:

Moles=mass in grams/AR or MR
Mole of gases=volume in dm3/24

should I go through acid and bases too for ATP preparation ?

We arent provided with a periodic table in ATP right and the flame colour test(s) isnt in our syllabus
RIGHT ?

No i dont think so because in any ATP paper for chemistry u dont see the periodic table attached at the back when u do PAST PAPERS from XP !
And syllabus never states abt giving periodic table for it while it does for P1 and 2. Also in P4 u must have seen when they want u to do calculations involving Molecular or Atomic mass they do give their masses but u dont have an access to the periodic table physically :D :D

but in some questions they tell us to find the Mr of the element and then they ask which element is this....

yeah i know then if u are lucky and u have looked at the periodic table especially the first 20 then u can easily predict but fear not see the MS for that paper they give a range of elements which u can pick check it out ur selF :p
