sentence: "How many different arrangements of all 11 CDs on a shelf are there if the jazz CDs are all next
to each other?"
breakup:
"How many different arrangements" = permutations
"of all 11 CDs" = understandable...
"the jazz CDs are all next to each other?" = of the 11 CDs, 3 contain Jazz music... they want the number of arrangements in which the Jazz CDs are all side by side; the classical and pop can be all jumbled up.
so the answer is 9! 3! = 2,177,280 ways

Amna,

what does not make sense to me is where does 3factorial and 9fatorial come?

or say its understandable that 3! is representing jazz, but what is 9! representing here? how did you know its 9?

you take the jazz books all as one book
and the other 8 books plus the jazz books so it will become 9!
