    Physics ATP; 24 hours passed

I wrote that a fiducial marker should be used, which acts a reference point in order to help when to start and stop the stopwatch at accurate times to minimize the human reaction error.

    How was Chemistry P1/2

Paper 1 went excellent, paper 2 went completely the opposite. Really hope the percentile drops on this one!

    Preparing For Chemistry 5070 P1 / P2

Major reactions in the chapter of METALS/NON-METALS are as follows: 1) Reaction of metal + acid (only possible for those metals above hydrogen) 2) Reaction of metal + cold water (only possible from potassium to calcium) 3) Reaction of metal + steam (only possible from magnesium to lead) 4)...

    Preparing For Chemistry 5070 P1 / P2

Now on to the reactivity series of NON-METALS. 1) Fluorine 2) Sulfate 3) Nitrate 4) Chlorine 5) Bromine 6) Iodine 7) Hydroxyl. Same reaction mechanism is followed as was done by the reactivity series of metals i.e more reactive displaces less reactive.

    How was Physics ATP

By the grace of God the paper went excellent, it was simple. A* on the boundary is possible if the percentile doesn't go too high, if not then an A for sure is secured inshAllah :) just 1 or 2 minor doubts.

    Preparing For Chemistry 5070 P1 / P2

Esterification : It is a reaction in which alcohols are reacted with alkanoic acids in the presence of H+ ions (any acidic medium) to produce a sweet smelling substance known as an ester and water.

    Preparing For Chemistry 5070 P1 / P2

Alcohols undergo 3 reactions i.e 1) Combustion 2) Oxidation and 3) Esterification. In the oxidation of alcohols, they are heated in the presence of acidic conditions or an oxidizing agent for e.g KMnO4 to produce an alkanoic acid.

    Preparing For Chemistry 5070 P1 / P2

Yes it is also known as cracking :) actually I was correcting myself because I had stated earlier that alkenes are broken down in cracking when instead alkanes are really broken down, my mistake. And correct we can also use heated porcelain pieces as the catalyst.

    Preparing For Chemistry 5070 P1 / P2

Sorry, in thermal decomposition an ALKANE is broken down and not an ALKENE, the alkene is formed :) In the addition of Haloacid for Alkenes, they react with an acid containing a halogen. The conditions for this reaction is a catalyst i.e Aluminium Chloride. The product formed is known as a...

    Preparing For Chemistry 5070 P1 / P2

Alkenes have the general formula CnH2n, they are unsaturated hydrocarbons i.e have C=C bonds. They undergo the following reactions: 1) Combustion 2) Addition of Hydrogen 3) Addition of Steam 4) Addition of Haloacid 5) Addition of Halogen They also undergo thermal decomposition in which Alkenes...

I'm pretty sure everyone knows about combustion :P

    Preparing For Chemistry 5070 P1 / P2

In the substitution reactions of Alkane, they undergo reactions with Group VII halogens, i.e fluorination, chlorination, bromination, iodination, and astatination reactions.

How'd your physics Papers go ?

The electrons will only be able to move once they absorb the heat energy, and their bonds with the positive ions break and their kinetic energy increases hence they start residing over the exterior surface of a metal. It's just like what happens to the atoms, only difference is that the atoms...

How'd your physics Papers go ?

Nope :P the atoms don't move, they vibrate about their fixed positions at the interior of a metal while electrons move about the exterior surface of a metal.

How'd your physics Papers go ?

Go check winter 2002 examiner's report of physics paper 2, in it the examiner himself has mentioned that heat is transferred by the vibration of atoms and movement of electrons in metals :)

IS THERE NEGATIVE MARKING IN O LEVEL?

Haha true that, but just make sure you didn't cross 170 in the summary! Be rest assured I'm 101% sure that marks wont be deducted in P1 for crossing the word limit :) nope I didnt, we are supposed to leave that for the examiner. Even if we write the word count he/she will still recheck it so no...

Biology; Chemistry; Physics: Post your doubts here!

Nope, as long as you included drawing field lines BETWEEN the spheres and from +ve to -ve, you will be awarded full marks :)

How'd your physics Papers go ?

Yes sorry I mean't the second last part. Last part was without a doubt power loss = I2R or V2/R.
