initial momentum is (m)(-2v) + (3m)(v) as they;re travelling in opposite directions. total initial momentum = 3mv-2mv = mv
after collision, both stick hence the masses added, momentum after collision = (4m)(V)

mv = 4mV
V = mv/4m both the *m* cancelled out, so V = v/4
