    Chemistry Test of Ions

Alrighty Measure a mass of 10g of Manganese oxide Pour 50cm3 of Hydrogen Peroxide into a conical flask, add manganese oxide It says hydrogen peroxide otherwise decomposes very slowly so if manganese oxide is a catalyst there will be fizzing. The bubbles produced should be oxygen; test if it is...

    Chemistry Test of Ions

iii) The test for nitrate is to add sodium hydroxide, aluminium and warm gently. If nitrate is presence ammonia is produced - and you can tell ammonia is produced by the alkaline pH (turns litmus paper blue) AFAIK there are no other alkaline gasses (at least in our syllabus). So in iii they did...

    Chemistry Test of Ions

And Woow you're correct, density increases down the group (it's times like this I hate my teacher) though for some reason it goes up at sodium, down again at potassium before going up again. And I don't think we'll have to explain it *facepalm*...

    Chemistry Test of Ions

And as for q6b, it'd change from black to reddish-brown, and i'm afraid that's just a case of knowing the colours of copper oxide and copper

    Chemistry Test of Ions

Okay then (iii*) shows that Nitrate is present. It's most likely D since all nitrates are soluble (v) shows that limewater is present since it turns milky. Limewater is calcium hydroxide. *Edit (iv) actually supports (v). Since it's alkaline it supports the theory that calcium hydroxide is present

    Chemistry Test of Ions

I actually have a question myself if anyone can answer, but not to do with ions and I doubt it's even in syllabus. Why does density of group 1 elements decrease down the group? Is it because atoms have larger shells thus in the same volume there's less atoms? But the fact that the mass of each...

    Chemistry Test of Ions

Thanks Zain :P Gotta love Stewie:love: I give up on trying to beat Wow at getting answers in first ^^ Also, correction, the reaction between ammonia and nitric acid is: NH4OH + HNO3-> H2O + NH4NO3

Download all Past Papers in a single click!

Well I've used this method, and used Internet Download Manager to do something similar But would it really be that hard to include an option to download them? Not only that but I really think the papers could be reorganized CIE ->IGCSE ->0500 English First Language -> s11 -> i.e. organized by...

    Chemistry Test of Ions

Well In a nutshell yes I guess, though you should try to understand WHY not just specific cases like this ;)

    Chemistry Test of Ions

In Experiment 1 it's EXOTHERMIC because it's a line sloping upwards i.e. the temperature increases with time meaning the reaction is producing heat In Experiment 2, it's a ENDOTHERMIC because it's a line sloping downwards i.e. the temperature decreases with time meaning the reaction is ABSORBING...

    Chemistry Test of Ions

Hmmm Are you supposed to say it's ZINC SULPHATE or that the compound contains Zinc ions and Sulphate ions? It may be a complex compound for all we know, containing multiple anions and cations.

    Chemistry Test of Ions

Ahaha Ironic We had this question in our mocks recently ;) It's simple: Pour 25cm3 of kleenup into a beaker. Fill a burette with nitric acid of known concentration. Add an phenopthalein to the kleenup Titrate the nitric acid against the kleenup until it reaches the end point (i.e. until the...

    Chemistry Test of Ions

HCl The reaction is: HCl + KOH -> KCl + H20 So one mole of KOH is needed for each mole of HCL So that means the number of moles of KOH in 25cm3 KOH is the same as the number of moles of HCl in 19cm3 of HCl The HCl is more concentrated because it has the SAME number of moles in a smaller volume...

    Chemistry Test of Ions

Hmm Answer is Sodium Thiosulphate/Water/Hydrochloric acid or Water/Sodium Thiosulphate/Hydrochloric acid The actual experimental procedure in the question says it adds the hydrochloric acid TO the sodium thiosulphate, so that should basically tell you that water or sodium thiosulphate is first...

Some of my answers in MATHEMATICS (0580/42) !!

Thank you :) Good luck with whatever exams you have next. I myself have Chem paper 6 ;) So study study study! More worried about Accounting than chemistry though

    90% for A*..!!!

Well IGCSE's aren't actually very hard I personally put a stop to my gaming. And watching films. And..etc. etc. I'm not too worried but it's only a month and a half of life which I'll be losing. I'd prefer to focus now and get the grades I need than have to waste a year later redoing it.
