thats what am saying its not haram..not all songs..some r good..but once u get into it..it leads u to things that r haram..Shaytan just looks for an oppurtunity to lead u t the wrong..u may start listeninig to naats and nasheeds..but end up listening to western pop and rock..then thats wrong and Shaytan has lead u to this..

Music that contains Vulgar Verses is Haram.
But its perfectly okay to listen to other types of music.
Singing is Allowed, Listening to others sing is okay too.

Assalamu3laikum everyone...
Leaving music is not something too hard. I used to listen to music a lot. In fact, there wasn't a single day I didn't listen to music. However, knowing that music is haraam, I used to stop listening to it in Ramadan. And, I did the same last year. But, last year there was a discussion over the issue on the forums (I think the link to it has been given somewhere in this thread) which made me realise how wrong I had been doing. I read that entire thread during Ramadan and I thought to myself that if I can survive without music during Ramadan then, why not the whole year..the entire life? And since last Ramadan, I haven't listened to music intentionally. Al7amdulillah! :)
So, if we actually decide to STOP, we can. It's just that we think we can't survive but if we are firm on faith, Allah s.w.t helps us. :)

I wanted to thank a few people for making me understand this. I couldn't do it then as I wasn't sure if I'd continue to refrain from music but now I know I will. So, from the bottom of my heart I thank badrobot14 XPFMember сᴏᴏʟ сяуѕтᴀʟѕ and many more people who became my inspiration. :)

AsSAlamu Alaikum Wr wb,

Recently I heard Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan saying something that resonated with me.... a lot....(I might b paraphrasing here) he said if we were to find joy in recitation of the Quran.... to really know it.. then the discussion whether Music is Haram or Halal will become irrelevant.... its true.. coz Alhamdulillah, I never find the need of music in my life thanks to Quran.. If I have to listen.. I listen to Quran..... and music cannot even b compared to the beauty of quran....
just listen to this.. n tell me sincerely what song can give peace to heart..?

Alhamdulillah..all praise to Allah s.w.t! really glad to hear that..May Allah s.w.t. reward you for your effort and may you always stay firm on the straight path..Aameen!

May Allah s.w.t guide us all and make us from among the muttaqeen. May He s.w.t make us of those who whenever commit an act which is not of a believer, immediately remember Allah and ask Him s.w.t to forgive their sins. May He s.w.t help us refrain from all evil and all haram and may the peace of our heart lie in the Quran..Aameen!

Shah... you can start by refraining from music for a week and listening to it for another. Then, gradually increase the number of days without music and decrease those listening to music. Like this, you will slowly learn how to stay away from music. Gradually, you will realise that you are better off without it. :)
